Janaki Kumar at LUNAR Podcast "Sustainability Design 2.0"

Janaki Kumar February 9, 2011: Janaki Kumar from SAP User Experience, Palo Alto leads a team of interaction designers who design the Sustainability Suite of products at SAP. On January 12, 2011, Janaki took part in an Icon-o-Cast episode, joining LUNAR's Robert Howard and Travis Lee for a discussion of "Sustainability Design 2.0." This title indicates that sustainable design is entering a new phase as it moves from environmental activism to an approach based around a range of improved business processes that make a difference. In the podcast, Janaki, Robert, and Travis discuss how designers can be leading participants in this shift by being aware of all of the concerns of the entire business.

DIS 2010 – A UI Design Practitioner's Report

October 13, 2010: DIS (Designing Interactive Systems) is one of the smaller design conferences, typically held every other year, and intended to "address design as an integrated activity spanning technical, social, cognitive, organizational, and cultural factors." The conference announcement continues: "It brings together professional designers, ethnographers, systems engineers, usability engineers, psychologists, design managers, product managers, academics and anyone involved in the design of interactive systems." As these statements sound quite ambitious, our author has included a reality check of them in his very personal DIS 2010 report, which was written from a UI design practitioner's perspective.

Beyond Clicking: Successful 2010 SAP User Experience Conference in Shanghai

August 5, 2010: In July 2010, the SAP user experience (UX) team organized the SAP User Experience Conference at Shanghai International Convention Center. Over 200 industry practitioners, university professors, and students from the UX field joined the one-day event. Drawing on years of experience in user interface (UI) design, senior members of the SAP UX team shared their insights into current business application design, illustrated with examples from SAP's state-of-the-art solutions. Experienced designers from peer companies and university researchers shared their design thinking and speculated on emerging UI technology trends, making the conference a grand gathering for the UX community in China.
