SAP Design Guild - August Edition Now Online - 09/04/2000

Starting with the August edition of the SAP Design Guild, we want to establish a new tradition that will surely make the SAP Design Guild even more interesting for the UI community. Each edition will feature a topic of current interest for the SAP world. Experts from inside and outside SAP are invited to contribute articles for this topic, which will be presented in the SAP Design Guild's Innovation section – a stage for "expert opinions."

The articles may be specific to SAP and its products, but also may take a broader or even subjective point of view. Any contribution that helps to broaden our insight is welcome! This edition of the SAP Design Guild features the mySAP.com Workplace and MiniApps, SAP's entries into the portal arena. Portals have aroused quite a lot of publicity and even excitement this year.

There are already many variants of them on the market, like consumer portals, corporate portals, or so-called vertical portals. The mySAP.com Workplace is SAP's view of which ingredients a good portal site should include; role-specific functionality and MiniApps are two of its characteristics.

The articles range from general discussions of portals to specific design questions like efficient MiniApp design or integration of WAP phones into the workplace. We hope you will find the articles useful and interesting to read. Look also for what is new in this edition!

SAP Design Guild - New Features - 08/01/2000

The SAP Design Guild Team is pleased to announce a discussion board and an opinion section.

Moreover, our homepage now features a "News" area that lists the most recent changes and additions to our site.

http://www.sapdesignguild.org

We created the SAP Design Guild as a resource for the user interface community. Here readers can exchange information and opinions on visual and user interface design issues. In addition, SAP offers its design resources in the form of style guides, methods, and insights into how a user-centered development process should be carried out and institutionalized.

As we concentrated our efforts on pooling design resources and preparing them for the site, the SAP Design Guild has up to now been a more or less "static" medium. Now it is time to shift our focus to discussion. While the static resources of the SAP Design Guild are still an important "selling point," we want to supplement these with content that changes daily, fortnightly, and quarterly:

The "Innovation" section of the SAP Design Guild is tied to our editions, which appear 3 to 4 times a year. Here, experts from outside and inside SAP dedicate articles to one "hot" topic in the SAP or UI community.

The new "Opinion" section features articles which are updated fortnightly. Every two weeks you will find editorials, but also articles on design issues, opinions, and personal view points, or even critical comments on what is going on in the UI field.

And what does a community need most? A discussion board! Well, here it is – called forum – and it is up to you to bring it to life.
